Does San Diego need a new City Hall?

In the last Thursday Union-Tribune Jason Hughes (of Irving Hughes, whom I hear a lot of as a sponsor of NPR radio) makes a point that the current city government is misrepresenting the data being presented for comparing remodeling/leasing vs. building a new city hall. It is so important having someone to be able to look at the numbers being represented and provide a sanity check.

I think that it is natural to assume that given a set of facts, one can cherry pick, those that support a decision that we are in favor of. But, given the precarious finances in city hall, it is better to choose carefully what new financial obligations that we create our future.

Maybe San Diego does deserve a new city hall, but most likely they cannot afford it.
